Oil Painting for Beginners
Instructor: Jean Hanson
This class is an introduction to Oil Painting. Jean will go over and explain the nature of Oil Painting. In addition, she will describe oil paints, materials, and tools to use so that students can take home a finished painting. Participants will learn how to mix colors; learn the difference between opaque and transparent colors; learn how to know what brushes to use; and learn how to use a pallet knife.
The subject of this class is a simple Elephant Head landscape. To start, students will sketch the scene with pencils on paper, next they will block out their painting on a prepared canvas and then go to work painting. When finished students will learn how to sign their painting and “Abracadabra” an oil painting artist is born. Paints, brushes, canvas, paper,and palette knife will be provided.

Biography
Artist Jean Hanson had divided her time between two places, Buhl, Idaho and Green Valley, Arizona for the past fifteen years. Her greatest influence has been her membership in the Santa Rita Art League. Through SRAL, she has grown artistically in the mediums of Watercolor, Acrylic and Oil. In the past seven years, she has emphasized the medium of Oil both in the studio and in Plein Air. She has studied under artists such as Robert Moore in Decio, Idaho, Phil Stark in Tucson, Arizona and Bill Cramer in Prescott, Arizona as well as others. Selected shows have been:
