Easy Encaustic: Paint with Melted Wax!
Instructor John Vanderbrooke

Would you like to learn an easy way to create encaustic paintings? John’s method is inexpensive, easy to learn and highly flexible! You can combine photography, mixed media, mono printing, even pattern transfers into encaustic work! John will also teach a “blind technique” using wax pads that imitate ink drawing. In this workshop, you will be introduced to the unending journey of encaustic painting and discover what is possible with this unique technique and medium. John says, “Working with wax is relaxing and hours can pass lost in the mystery of melting wax images that come out of the nowhere into the Now Here. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to be led by the patterns that begin to appear.”

John is self-taught as an encaustic artist and began his work after viewing work created by an artist from Wales. During the demo he will introduce participants to some of the many ways to work with wax. There are different styles, and he will be demonstrating the European Method using hot tools. Best yet, John’s technique does not create the fumes and health hazards of more traditional encaustic techniques. John uses an iron, a hot stylus, hot griddle and colored wax.

There are no supplies to bring except for note-taking materials. Time permitting, you will have an opportunity to have some hands-on time with the tools and process, and John will supply you with sources for materials if you want to give this a go on your own!
