“Art Basics for Success”
A Series of Four-Sessions
Instructor: Rich Metcalf
Dates: Sunday, January 7, 14, 21, and 28th, 2024
Maximum Number of Participants: 18
To succeed in art, there are a few necessary principles and techniques with which all artists need to be familiar. Some of these you may not learn in art school, but only over time if you work as an artist, illustrator, photographer, art teacher, graphic designer, or even as a fashion designer.
This coming January there will be a set of 4 sessions that build upon each other. Each session will be on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the SRAL Main Studio. The first class will begin with simple drawing techniques using charcoal sticks, which will be provided, and this can be intimidating but necessary before you leap to using color. These sessions will address art fundamentals such as: drawing, layout, composition, form, color, lighting, values, perspective, etc.
All those attending will be required to complete the homework assignments, which may include creating a pastel painting or drawing, and/or watching a YouTube video of an artist working. Each session will begin by looking at the homework art pieces. It is intended that these sessions be fun for all and instructive; hopefully you will approach art projects with more confidence and with ease.
For these sessions, Rich would prefer beginning students. However, if you need a refresher art class or wish to learn more about using pastels, sign up. You are certainly welcome.
