The Wonderful World of Color

Explore the wonderful world of color. Students will be encouraged to develop an appreciation of color, its subtleties, and its beauty. In The Wonderful World of Color, students will learn about the four characteristics of color (hue, temperature, value, and intensity), how they are used to describe different colors, and how to mix vibrant secondary and intermediate hues. In addition, learning to mix rich, low-intensity colors, as well as tints, shades, and tones will be addressed in this class. A variety of color harmonies will also be discussed as well as learning to work with a limited palette. The information gained from these paint mixing exercises will be invaluable regardless of the paint medium you work with. Paints, paper, brushes, and palettes will be supplied by SRAL.

Biography
Susan Ettl is an artist and national instructor who creates vibrant collages and paintings, which focus on the interplay of color and texture by creating many layers using personalized paints colors and collage paper produced with her unique motifs. Her work has a primordial essence which speaks of an eternal universality influenced by her travels in Europe, Mexico, and Central America.
She continues her art education by studying with local, national and international instructors. The courses she took in 2021 have inspired her process to be more joyful and intuitive.
Susan has a BA and an MS in Mathematics. In her past, she has been a lecturer in Mathematics and an Aerospace Engineer. Yes, Susan really is a Rocket Scientist. She retired in 1994 to pursue her dream of a career in the fiber arts.
In 2002, she completed a two-year correspondence teaching certification in color sponsored by the National Academy of Needlearts. In 2012, she began to work exclusively on canvas and paper. Susan teaches a variety of courses including color theory; design elements and principles; Gelli printing; creating stamps and stencils; and collage/mixed media.
