BETWEEN LIGHT & SHADOW

Monday, December 2 – Tuesday, December 31, 2024

Canoa Hills GVR Center

As artists we are regularly called upon to examine the properties of light and shadow in our work – how we define objects in space, how we evoke mood and atmosphere, how we convey emotion and ideas. We accept that light blocked by an object casts a shadow, adding a three-dimensional illusion to form in art. We would agree that light, which expels darkness, symbolizes such concepts as happiness, prosperity, wisdom, hope, and illumination.

Shadow, that which follows light, is often symbolic of the unknown, of doom, mystery and obscurity. And shadow, with its inherent capability of reflecting light (and color), enables and enlivens our perception of things of both the physical and non-physical world. Santa Rita Art League invites you to engage in an expression of light, shadow, and everything in-between.
